Installation Notes
All NetMap downloads must be unzipped to the root of a hard drive, i.e. C:\ or D:\.
You'll find the program under (i.e.) C:\Work\
ArcMap 9.3 Users: If the NetMap buttons are non-functional, it is likely that VBA is not installed. Please install it using the ArcGIS installation disk.
Windows 7 Users:
Several of us have run into problems with file permissions in Windows 7 using NetMap and other software. It occurs on files that the user did not generate but must write to. This can be remedied by running the following lines of code in the command line window; the code allows the user to take ownership of the files.
1) Change to the directory containing the files, e.g., cd c:\Work
2) For files:
takeown /f file_name /d y
icacls file_name /grant administrators:F
3) For directories - works recursively:
takeown /f directory_name /r /d y
icacls directory_name /grant administrators:F /t
takeown: Enables an administrator to recover access to a file that previously was denied, by making the administrator the owner of the file.
icacls: Displays or modifies discretionary access control lists (DACLs) on specified files, and applies stored DACLs to files in specified directories.
Newest version can be run over a mapped network drive, ONLY on Windows 7.
The floodplain width tool is fixed in this version.
U. S. Forest Service Users: Note that most users will require "administrative privileges" to be able to download and run NetMap tools on their agency computers. Go to
http://gadgets.ds.fs.fed.us/EUTools/ad_promote.asp to obtain 'administrative privileges' that lasts for 24 hours once accessed (e.g., NetMap tools need to be downloaded within 24 hrs of accessing 'administrative privileges')
All Users: To ensure that NetMap runs smoothly, you will need to download at least 3 files: NetMap_Files_vZ_XX, ToolsetXX, and Locate.exe. Make sure that the version numbers Z and XX match, respectively. Also you will need to download the NetMap manuals and data files for your region of interest (see Watershed Database).
