Channel Types

Step Wise Guide

ChannelTypes/Response/Network

ยท What different types of channels do I have in my Watershed?

Classify channels according to their physical properties or characteristics. Popular classification schemes include Rosgen (1996), Montgomery and Buffington (1997), among others. Classification can be used to distinguish among differnt types of morphology.  This may be useful for identifying which channnel types and locations are more sensitive to land use impacts, including flooding and sedimentation.

It may be useful to stratify a watershed or landscape according based on channel types reflecting planform morphology (straight vs sinuous), channel gradient, substrate size, width to depth ratios, single to multiple channels and tributary confluences.

Step 1: Go to  NetMap Fluvial Morphology Module > Channel Classification> Generic or Rosgen. Follow the instructions provided in each tool, and refer to technical help.
