Predictions of fish habitat quality and sensitivity can be used to help design riparian management activities.
The design of riparian forest management including the width, density and characteristics of streamside forests, could be influenced by the habitat quality or sensitivity of the stream in question. Larger riparian buffers or manipulating the stand to enhance aquatic conditions (increased light, decreased temperature, increased wood loading, increased litter fall etc.) could target high quality fish habitat, while small riparian buffers could be placed along streams with little habitat quality, or where streams have no fish (headwaters).
